LEAGUE OF NATIONS
BRITISH & FRENCH LOYALTY
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, May 23,
Messages from Geneva state that at the beginning of this afternoon's public session of the League Council both the British and French Foreign Ministers emphasised the continued loyalty of Britain and France to the League of Nations.
Lord Halifax recalled the events which had shaken Europe since last September and stated that, while it had been impossible to use the League's machinery to put into effect the various measures which Britain thought it was necessary to take to prevent the domination of Europe by force, both Britain and France would use the earliest favourable opportunity to apprise the Cpuncil of the results of the series of negotiations and arrangements carried- out and arrived at by the Governments concerned.
These, Lord Halifax added, were definitely in the spirit of the League and designed to uphold its high ideals of security, order, and peace.
