THE HAYWARDS ROAD
The Hutt County Council has been relieved of the cost of maintenance of the Haywards-Pahautanui Road for ttte past two years while its construction has been under way,, but now that its construction has been completed except for the bridges, the Public Works Department considers that the county should bear its share of the maintenance cost. The Public Works Engineer advised the County Council'yesterday that after the road became a main highway the county would have to coni tribute one-fourth of the annual maintenance cost, and it was considered that the county, should, contribute at the same rate till such time as the road became a highway. The-maintenance cost for the year would be £1600, the council's share' being £400. The council decided to interview the Public Works Department on the matter.
