OBITUARY

REV. H. T. YORK

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day,

The Rev. Herbert Thomas York, who was vicar of St. Peter's Church, Upper Riccarton, for 29 years, died suddenly yesterday morning.

Mr. York was born in Nelson 77 years ago and was one of thirteen children of Mr. Thomas York. After being trained for the ministry at the Bishopdale Theological College, Nelson, Mr. York was ordained deacon in 1889 and priest a year later. For the next three years he was curate of Westport, and from 1901 to 1907 he was vicar at Reefton. In 1908 he was made vicar of Methven, but he left after two years for St. Peter's parish, where he remained until his death.

Mr. York was chairman of the Christchurch Diocesan /Sunday School and the Youth Work Council, and chairman of the Diocesan Divine Healing Fellowship. With his wife, who survives him, he was actively interested in

youth and Bible class movements,
