TOKHO, May 14.
The Japanese arnoy in Central China claims to hawe routed 26 Chinese divisions and two brigades as a result of the IVilay offensive against the main body of the Chinese in the fifth (Hupeh) war zone. The Japanese are advancing towards the next offensive parallel jwith the fleeing enemy, mopping up< stragglers.
The success, which enables the Japanese to retain the (Cities in the Wuhan area, was the ijesult of enticing the Chinese tawj&rds a line east of the Peking-Hanktow railway, 80 miles north-west of Hfankow, and entrapping them near Atolu. The Japanese penetrated the Chinese defences north-west of Tsaoyarag, which was captured, outflanking a large number and cutting off their retreat, and also cutting the cations between the_ firsthand fifth war zones. . \
