WOMEN'S HOCKEY
FINE GAME AT KILBIRNiE
In spite of showers of rain in the morning, grounds were in a good condition for. play on Saturday afternoon. At Kilbirnie, there was a hard-fought battle between College Old Girls and Ngata-Poneke, C.O.G. having to play their best to beat their opponents, who were showing a great Improvement In their play. Hutt Valley had no difficulty In beating Technical College Old Girls II at Newtown Park, and University and Training College defaulted to Hutt United and T.O.G. (1) respectively. The friendly game arranged for Hutt United and T.O.G. (I) was not played. Results were:—C.O.G. 3, Xgata-Poneke 1; Hutt Valley 5, T.O.G. II 1.
C.O.G. V. NGATA-PONEKE
The superior combination of the C.O.G. team wa3 responsible for their win against NgataPoneke. The game was fast and -open, with accurate and hard hitting. Miss Budge, leftwing, shot Poneke's only goal early in the first half, Miss Carson, C.O.G.'s left-wing, equalising within a few minutes. Shortly before halftime Mrs. Lamason scored C.O.G.'s second goal, and with a neat piece of combination with her centre forward towards the end of the game rushed through and scored nnother, making the final score 3-1. C.O.G.'s defence is as good as ever, and both teams' goalkeepers played on °The umpires were Misses Wilkins and Dunce.
