A NATIONAL THEATRE
An official o^f the National Theatre told a representative of the "Daily Telegraph" recently that it is hoped that the plans for the' theatre, which have been passed by the London County Council, will be exhibited at this year's Royal Academy. Sir Edwin Lutyens, president of the Royal Academy, and Mr. Cecil Masey, the architects, are now engaged on final details of the building, which will have four frontages on an island site in South Kensington. The plans were completed early in January after continuous work since last summer. The proposed accommodation is 1097 seats. The stage will be of exceptional depth and width compared with theatres of similar size. The committee of the theatre recently refused permission to the War Office to erect temporary buildings on the site, as it is expected that the foundation-stone will be laid in the spring or early summer.
