BACKBLOCK SCHOLARS
INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.")
NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day,
Mr. N. T. Lambourne, Director of Education, and Dr. R. A. Shore, Assistant Director-General of Health, who are Visiting New Plymouth, decided, after consultation, to close the Education Department's correspondence school's vacation course at New Plymouth on account of the prevalence of influenza. Quite a large number of children already have influenza, and it is feared that it will spread.
Two hundred backblocks children from all over New Zealand are attending the course. They are being dispersed gradually. The New Plymouth Boys' High School, where the course is being held, will not reopen until a week after the scheduled date for the commencement of the second school term.
