SIR TRUBY KING
MEMORIAL FUND
PLUNKET SOCIETY APPEAL
A national appeal for £5000 to provide a memorial to the late Sir Truby King is being sponsored by the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children, of which he was founder. His Excellency the Gov-ernor-General (Viscount Galway) and Lady Galway have consented to be patrons of the appeal which has the approval of the Government and which will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) on Monday. The society has decided that the memorial shall take the following form:— A sum of £2000 is to be set aside as an endowment fund, the income from which is to be handed to the Wellington branch committee to assist with the upkeep and maintenance of Truby King House, formerly the home, of Sir* Truby and bequeathed by him to the society for mothercraft work. A post-graduate course for Plunket and Karitane nurses is to be provided by the investment of £2500 or more.
Three hundred pounds is to be expended on a suitable bronze plaque or other monument to be erected above the burial ground of the late Sir Truby King.
An allocation of £100 is to be made to provide a portrait of Sir Truby King to be hung in a suitable place in Truby King House above an appropriate inscription.
A "national appeal" circular signed by the Dominion President (Mr. D. M. R. Begg) and the president of the Wellington branch (Mr. K. F. McGeorge) concludes with the following paragraphs:—
"In making this appeal it is hardly necessary for us to point out that the late Sir Truby King devoted his life to the welfare of the women and children of this Dominion. To his painstaking research, amazing energy, and enthusiasm, New Zealand and the world owe a tremendous debt of gratitude.
Eminent men throughout the world have referred to Sir Truby King as being one of the greatest benefactors to mankind. We are proud that he was a New Zealander and that the work which has made his name famous was established in this Dominion."
