OBITUARY
DR. CHARLES L. MANDL
The death of Dr. Charles L. Mandl occurred in a private hospital in Wellington yesterday: afternoon after a short illness. Dr: Majidl. was 67 years of age and was a member of a pioneer West Coast family. Mr. Joseph Mandl, his father, set-tled-on the West Coast, in 1865, and for a number of years he was prominent in local body affairs, being Mayor of Hokitika and also being prominently associated with the Harbour and Hospital Boards. Dr. Mandl was educated at the Otago Boy's' High
School and took his medical degree at. Edinburgh.. After his return to New Zealand he practised on the West Coast of,the South Island and in the Manawatu district. Ten years ago he carried out research work on the Continent, and when he returned to New Zealand he set up practice in Wellington.
In his youth Dr. Mandl was a keen Rugby footballer. When he was at the Otago Boys' High School he was captain of the first fifteen.
Dr. Mandl leaves a wife and one son, Mr. M. Mandl, Hokitika, and also three sisters, Mrs.T. H. Coltman, Wellington, Miss R. Mandl, Auckland, and Mrs. H. Pickett, Auckland.
The funeral :is to take place at Hokitika on. Wednesday next. Requiem Mass is to be celebrated at the Church of St. Mary of the Angels, Boulcott Street, on 'Monday morning.
