The Prime Minister stated in the House of Commons that he had authorised an official report on the offering of full facilities for the settlement of refugees in British Guiana at the beginning of the autumn on generous leasehold terms. It is presumed that the scheme will be financed privately under the direction of experts, with the co-operation of the Imperial and British. Guiana Governments, the extent of settlement depending on industrial development, for which purpose a survey is contemplated. The whole interior will be made available for air and arterial communications if the prospects warrant, with a large measure of autonomy when it is justified, though the British Guiana Government will retain control of the general services.
