TENSE SITUATION
ENTRY BY JAPANESE
INTERNATIONAL SETTLEMENT AT AMOY

LONDON, May 12.
Hong Kong reports that Japanese marines today entered the international settlement of the treaty port of Amoy in consequence of the shooting of the Chinese chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, who was pro-Japanese. The situation is very tense.
A Shanghai message states that the locality of the landing of the Japanese bluejackets is the international settlement of Kulangsu half a mile from Amoy. It is understood that the occupation will continue until the settlement authorities are in control of antiJapanese activities
Foreigners fear that the landing will be a prelude to action against other concessions.
Japanese marines arrested a hundred persons in a house-to-house search.
Chungking reports that 21 Japanese planes resumed the bombardment of the city, starting several fires.
