How the Manawatu representative cricket side arrived in Nelson to play an elimination match with only two pairs of pads was referred to by Mr. W. E. Norris (captain of the team) when speaking at the United Club's smoke concert on the other night, states a Manawatu exchange. Earlier. Mr. R. A. Brace (secretary of the Manawatu Cricket Association) had related how an urgent request had been received for a pair of pads to be sent by air, but the request had not been complied with because it was thought the players must have plenty. The team had had to borrow pads from the Nelson Association, said Mr. Norris, and thought it did not reflect very creditably on the Manawatu Association. However, apart from this oversight, he considered that the Manawatu players were the best equipped of any team, both major and minor, in the Dominion.
