KENA AN EARLY IMPROVER

(Special from "Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, May 11

Waltzing Lila, who is engaged in the maiden events at the Poverty Bay Meeting on Saturday, has previously shown pace in her races round the Auckland district. The opposition in her class does not appear to be very strong, and she may run prominently. It is interesting to note that Kena and Paxeno, trained at Rotorua, went on to Awapuni after racing at the Egmont Meeting. The former was unlucky in the Mcßae Cup, being last for the first half-mile and then finishing fourth an effort he repeated on the second day, which indicated that 'us turn may come very shortly. Paxeno is a promising three-year-old halfsister to the speedy Bonnybelle. A big impression was created by Saccone when he won the nine-furlong hack event at Pukekohe, for he literally left a useful field of staying hacks standing in the last half-furlong to win easing up by the best part of three lengths. Now that this horse has come right he may win again shortly.. Failure to get to the front in the early stages proved expensive for supporters of Orwere at Pukekohe. but for all that he ran quite a good race, and his fourth placing indicated that he may have been a shade unlucky. He is engaged in the sprint races at Te Rapa and may reveal improvement. Prince Acre showed his appreciation of the easier track conditions, and it looks *as if he will have to be remembered when the turf becomes really heavy.
