STATE HOUSES
KOROKORe^WMFFS SOME
An effort is to be made by the Korokoro Ratepayers' Association to have State houses erected in the district. At the annual meeting of the association this week dissatisfaction was expressed at the Government's refusal to build Government houses at Korofcoro, one member asking why good land at Taita should be taken and so many available sections at Korokorcx overlooked. , i Councillors H. E. Fleet arid J. Huggan, who attended the meeting, assured members that the-. Petone Borougfr Council would assist the: association in their endeavours tor get' $tate houses' '"-.built/ ■-"'■ ' The executive of the association is to try to arrange for a deputation to meet the ■ Minister on this matter. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £1 4s 10d, which was declared to* be highly satisfactory. The question of further tree-planting at Korokoro was held over for the present. Complimentary remarks were passed regarding the domain lighting, and it is thought that this problem has now been solved in a most satisfactory man- : ner. - .''-'' '- A member of the newly-formed .association at 'Normandale attended the meeting and complimented the Korokoro people on what had been accomplished. "Compared with Normandale, he said, Korokoro was almost a township. At Normandale, there was neither gas nor water supply, and the roads were scarcely metalled, whilst Korokoro. was partly/tar-sealed. . The association expressed its thanks to the Petone Borough Council,, the Power Board, Gas Board, the Railways Road Motor Services, and the Automobile Association for their valued assistance and unfailing courtesy during the'year. Several new members were enrolled. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr, W. Glover; secretary, Mr; Huggan; executive, Messrs. Gartside, Jepson, Mouat, Russell/, and M. Millar; hon. auditor, Mr. S. G. Jones.
