Freddie Bartholomew and Mickey Rooney play the principal juvenile roles in ''The, Boy from Barnardo's," which opens on 'Tuesday at the Tivoli Theatre. The film deals with the training of young' Britishers at .the merchant marine school, a division of the Barnardo Homes, famous institution for the care and education of orphaned boys in England. There are 121 of the homes, teaching various trades and callings. They were founded in the seventies by Dr. Thomas John Bai-nardo, and today are operated by an association of which the King and Queen are heads. Boys on graduation are placed in" positions on ships in -England, Canada, Australia, or other Dominions. Sam Wood was director ~^bl the picture in which Freddie, as the tool of adventurers, is taken from the guardians and placed in the-nautical training home where he finds regeneration and a new life. Players include Charles Coburn, Herbert Mundin, Gale Sondergaard, Terry Kilburn, and Peter Lawford. Modern motion picture magic has coloured the brighter pages of history in a new salute to heroic scientists. It is "Yellow Jack," dedicated to those five soldiers who risked their lives to free humanity from the yoke of yellow fever. The film, which will be the associate attraction, impresses the audience with starkly dramatic scenes, unusual romantic appeal, and a new type of heroism. Metro-Gqld-wyn-Mayer spared nothing in making the authentic story of Major Walter Reed a thrilling tribute to the man responsible for lifting the yoke of yellow fever from Cuba in the distressing days following the Spanish-Ameri-can War. They placed Robert Montgomery- in his first dramatic role since "Night Must Fall." and once more assigned the lovely Virginia Bruce in the feminine lead.
