MR. ROSCOE'S'S CASE
REPLY TO MR. MACKLEY
(Special to the "Evenfrig Post.")
CHRISTCHURCH, May 12,
"The test of Mr. Mackley's faith in his case is: Will he prevail upon the Minister of Railways, Mr. Sullivan, to ararnge for an investigation by a committee such as was suggested by me?" said Mr. J. S. Roscoe when commenting on Mr. Mackley's article (published, yesterday). "Before such a committee, with the powers of a Royal Commission, I will substantiate the charges made by giving particulars of typical cases." Speaking of Mr. Mackley's reference to the support given by the "Workers' Weekly" and the Communist Party to him, Mr. Roscoe said: "On the day after the report of my resignation, a representative of the 'Workers' Weekly' asked me for a statement. This I refused to give, and I suggested that if he desired the railwayman's opinion he had better see some of them. Any laudatory comment by any paper about myself was not sought by me."
