INCREASE IN SOUTH-EAST
EUROPE
BERLIN, May 11
Germany's trade with South-east Europe increased by 40 per cent, in the first quarter of 1939, compared with last year. Exports to Britain were reduced by one-quarter, to France by one-third, to Belgium and Luxemburg by 11_ per cent., and to the Netherlands by 10 per cent.
The favourable balance of trade with South-east Europe was £1,376,000, compared with an unfavourable balance of £3,064,000 in the first quarter of 1938. The total exports from the old Reich were £100,992,000, and imports £103,152,000, but Greater Germany showed an adverse balance of £8,992,000.
