GIFT TO UNIVERSITY
AUCKLAND EXTENSIONS
CITY'S INTEREST IN LAND
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, May 11
A decision to make a gift of the city's interest in the block of land bounded by Princes Street, Alfred Street, and the University College property to the college for the purpose of future university extensions was made by the City Council tonight.
This matter had been before the council on previous occasions, but had been deferred for fuller consideration. When it came up for consideration tonight it was discussed in committee.
When the council resumed in open council, the Mas'or, Sir Ernest Davis, reported that the recommendation of the finance committee on this question had been adopted. This recommendation was to the effect that, with a view to enabling the University College Council to make its plans for future extensions, the City Council agree to its interest in the block being transferred to the University College Council, subject to rentals reserved being payable to the council till such time as the area, or areas, are utilised for the erection of buildings for university purposes and. to the payment of rates for the same period.
