TRIBUTE TO SCOUTS
At the conclusion of an inquest to- . day into the death of Esma Valeria Harding, a married woman, aged 50, who was found drowned in the harbour opposite the railway station on May 7, Senior-Sergeant G. J. Paine asked that the thanks of the police be passed on to* the- Khandallah Scouts and their scoutmaster, who had been . very helpful with assistance .in the search. The Coroner (Mr. E. Gilbertson, J.P.), endorsed the remarks of the senior-sergeant. <A finding was returned that the deceased took her life while in a state of mental depression. It was stated that she had been ih poor health and had been suffering from insomnia. A finding that the deceased took his life while mentally unbalanced by . jumping from the Kelburn Viaduct. was returned at the conclusion of the inquest into the death of a labourer, Harry. Charles Baty, a former member of the police force. It was revealed that the deceased, on the date of his death, May 1, posted to his relatives £261, consisting of a surrendered life insurance and all his other money.
