HOSPITAL SUPPLIES

EFFECT OF CONTROL

{By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 8.

Difficulties faced by several firms in supplying contract lines to the Auckland Hospital on account of import restrictions were mentioned in a report of the finance and purchasing committee to the hospital board tonight.

Advice had been received from one firm of wholesalers, the committee reported, that it was unable to deliver further quantities of a variety of tinned fish. It. had also been stated that another contractor was encountering difficulty in obtaining salmon.

The committee recommended that, where it was definitely proved that inability to supply was the result of. import restriction, the firm involved should be relieved 6f its responsibility. Every case was to be dealt with on its merits, and important instances reported to the finance committee for decision

Advice was also received from an Auckland firm that because of delay of the Customs Department in granting the necessary licence, it would guarantee to fulfil regular requirements for a special disinfectant for another three months only.

The committee reported that the let- l ter had been forwarded to the Customs Department to which had been pointed out the necessity of this supply for hospital purposes, and the unsuitability of local products. The committee's recommendation was adopted.
