EASTBOURNE PLUNKET

SOCIETY

Large bowls of dahlias and brugmansia in all the autumn tints decorated the tables of the Eastbourne Borough Council Chambers when the Eastbourne Sub-committee of the Plunket Society held its annual meeting recently. A good report of the year's activities and financial results was submitted to a large and enthusiastic meeting. Mrs. C. Girdlestone, president, welcomed Mrs. H. Jowett, president of the Wellington branch, who presided. Mrs. Jowett congratulated the branch on its most successful year, and spoke about the Truby King National Memorial scheme, and the arrangements for Founder's Day in May. Miss Samson, charge nurse, related some of her experiences while abroad recently, and stated how thrilled she was to know that all countries were learning from New Zealand the Plunket methods. Others present from the central branch were Mrs. R. Matthews, and Miss Hayes, secretary. Mrs. Girdlestone thanked Mrs. Laurie Jones, retiring treasurer, for her valuable services during the past year and expressed regret at losing her services. Thanks were also extended to all members of the committee for their loyal support throughout the year. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following were elected to the committee: Patroness, Mrs. F. The Waiwhetu sub-branch of the j Plunket Society held its monthly meeti ing recently, when the commitjtee decided to hold a children's fancy dress party later in the month at the ( Birch Street Hall. Members attending were Mesdames Mcintosh, Sanders, I Evans. Passmore, Williams, McGhie, Mclndoe, Levy, Nash, Smith, Chisholm, and White. Two new members were proposed, Mrs. Dalgleish and Mrs. Beaumont. Further suggestions were discussed and reports read. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. J. Nash and Mrs. Smith.
