FOR A WORTHY CAUSE

With the time-honoured traditions of the British Army, the establishment of a New Zealand Scottish Regiment with detachments in the different centres is in full accord. The Highlands of Scotland have always been a favourite recruiting ground for the British Army, and many famous kilted regiments have written their name large across the pages of British military history. Their traditions have always made a strong appeal and there is no difficulty in recruiting. The Wellington Company of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment, allied to the Black Watch, of historic renown, is now at full strength, but will require to be fully equipped before going on parade. This is an expensive matter, and the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. T. C. A. Hi slop) addresses in this issue a public appeal to citizens for contributions to a fund to assist in equipping the local company with uniforms so that it will be a credit j to the city. Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin have already set the example by contributing freely to similar appeals for funds, and it is hoped that Wellington will respond with equal generosity in a cause that is worthy of full support.
