PEACE CONFERENCE
CATHOLIC APPEAL
MANY REPLIES IN SUPPORT
(Received April 28, 12.3 ft p.m.) LONDON, April 27. "The Catholic World" has received letters supporting the appeal by the Roman Catholic laity in all parts of the world for a peace conference from many notable persons, including the Duke of Windsor, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Hailsham, Sir Oswald Mosley, Mr. Hugh Walpole, the Prebendary of Carlisle, Mr. Leslie Henson, the actor, and Mr. W. Gallacher, the Communist member of Parliament.
A London cablegram received on April 14 stated:—The "Daily Herald" publishes an appeal by the Roman Catholic laity in all parts of the world urging the bishops to • approach the Governments for a last-minute peace conference. The appeal is being sent to the Pope, to the editors of- Catholic journals all over the world, and also to prominent people of all faiths. This is the first occasion in history 'that an attempt has been made by the laity to rouse Catholic opinion in order to enforce the Church's teaching concerning peace and war.
