ADVERTISING SEATS
HOSPITAL ENTRANCE
LAY-OUT
The campaign against advertising seats in the city being carried on by the Wellington Beautifying Society was again referred to at the monthly meeting last, night. The president (Captain S. Holm) reported that no further progress had been made. At the last meeting it was agreed to offer four seats at the hospital entrance provided the seat erected there by the Wellington Seat Advertising Company was removed, but the company had replied expressing regret that it could not comply with the request because advertising space on that seat had been let. On the motion of Mrs. Knox Gilmer it was decided to thank the president for the work he had done about the advertising seats. "I think we have got them to call a halt," said Mrs. Gilmer. "Advertisers know now that it is not good business to advertise when the public are against the whole thing." One member said he thought advertising on seats would fade out of its own accord now. At a later stage in the meeting the hospital entrance was again referred to, and at Mrs. Gilmer's suggestion it was decided to write a further letter to the board stating that the society felt the lay-out was not complete without the four seats promised by the society provided the advertising seat was removed and that that offer still stood.
