WAIRARAPA TROTS

EXTRA DAY AT HUTT PARK

REVIEW OF FORM FOR TOMORROW'S RACING

(By "Ariki Toa. s*)

The transfer of the Wairarapa Trotting Club's Annual Meeting to Hutt Park has provided Wellington light-harness enthusiasts with an extra fixture on the home course this season, and the fields that have been secured for the racing tomorrow are near the best in numerical strength that have ever been brought together at the Park. The meeting closes the southern North Island autumn circuit, which has been in progress for the past five weeks. The form of most of the horses engaged tomorrow has been disclosed at recent meetings, and the following is a brief review of the prospects of the individual horses on that form. The figures before the names indicate the positions filled in the last th^ee or as many starts as the horses have had this season. The betting will be under the win-and-place system.

12*30—MEMBERS' HANBIGb&P; £150; for unhoppled trotters; 3.43 class; 1J miles.

000-Black Native. A possibility, but apt to make a mistake scr 021-Blomfield. Has raced particularly well against weak opposition on the circuit scr 123-Bush Laddie. One of the most promising trotters tn commission, and certain to give his . backers . a great run scr 030-Native Ruler. Useful turn of • speed, but recent effortß have not been impressive scr. 013-Natlve Worry. Raced consistently throughout the circuit and won well at Awapuni last Saturday scr 021-Rich Harvest.. Won at Greymouth last month and is stated to be a likely sort scr 000-Snowy Bingen. Has the ability, but rarely leaves the mark scr W2-Paddy's Harvest. Last six starts have yielded three firsts, a second, and a third. A very solid trotter, who should be in the picture 12

220-All worthy. Raced as pacer up till recently when he was converted to trotting gait 24 102-AII Bingen. Has shaped encouragingly in recent starts, but Is on a difficult mark 48 031-Sphinx. Gained an 'overdue success at' Awapuni on '■ Wednesday, but has been a long time in the improving: class .. 72 A wide range is offered backers in the Members' Handicap, and the betting is likely to be ,well distributed. Bush Laddie may be installed the favourite, for his form to date has been most encouraging, especially considering that he has appeared on only three occasions. Blomfleld possesses a good turn of speed, and Paddy's Harvest is too consistent to be left out of calculations. Bich Harvest may be the best of the remainder. A trio who may be fancied are BUSH LADDIE, PADDY'S HARVEST, and BLOMFIELD.

X.lO—TRIAL HANDICAP, £160; 3.5 class* 1£ miles.

2Oo"Axspear, Showed speed In finishing second to Nelson Eddy in Kiccarton Stakes at Addington last November' .scr 003>Fir8t Shake. Ban an encouraging third at Awapuni last Saturday, but seems fated to secure placings only/ ........ ecr, 000-Goldon Axworthy. A smart beginner . scr 03-Labour Day. Commenced racing at i Awapuni last Saturday, and gained -third place, on Wednesday .......... scr O-Lord Brent. Still inexperienced .... scr 000-Mackscot. An American-bred colt "who appears to be Impr&ving with racing ser | (Nif) -Margaret Parrlsh. No racing for some time ........ scr 0-Ordnance. A two-year-old in M. C. McTigue's stable . scr 000-Ranger. Showed a fair turn of speed at Awapuni, but did not leave too well scr COO-Red Knight. Does not appeal ......... scr 000-Repose. A smart beginner, but does not hang on «cr 000-Rhythm. No form to date .... n ...... scr

X.SO—BEY MEMORIAL, £200; 3.38 class; 1J miles.

003-Stepson. Ban encouraging minor placing at Awapuni ..:. , acr 002-Three Ten*. A very promising two-year-old, but may require 'more experience, scr (Nil)-Wexf ord. One of C. S. Donald's team, haying first start scr 000-Max Havoc. A good..beginner 24 001-Guy Whispers. Task difficult from back mark 86 Although he has yet to show form in keeping with his, aristocratic breeding, the recent displays of Alackscot have 'left the impression that ho is now reaching his best, and he: may be the actual favourite in.Uhe 'Trial Handicap. There is not a great deal of disclosed form iin the race, and it is the type ,of contest that might easily provide an upset. Axspear has not raced for some time, but he Is a nice colt who may turn out well. ' First Shake, Labour Day, and Stepson have placings to commend them, while Three Tens, even though second at Awapuni, may require a little more time. The principal selections may comprise MACKSCOT, AXSPEAR, and LABOUR DAY. , i ■ . '.

100-Di!test. Class may be a shade too good scr 000-Idlcalong. No form to commend him . scr 001 -Loyal Rey. Won over two miles at Ashburton, and sure to be in the picture >cr 030-Ochiltree. Has plenty of speed, and a good beginner scr 002-Petite. Kan excellent races at Awapuni, and will appreciate the tighter 4 iV . handicap ...." ;...^...*....-..., scr 100-Royal Navy. "Disappointed at her last appearances on the track set 200-Accountant. Has raced well on the circuit , 12 122-Lady Nessa. A most consistent mare, and a previous winner on the coxirse . 12 002-Loch Leven. Showing much-improved form ~ :.....j.. 12

2.3O—CARTERTON HANDICAP, £250; 3.32 class; 1J miles.

323-Pecunia. A' most consistent mare, who rarely runs a bad race 12 (Nll)-Rollalong. Has done nothing for a long time -..'. 12 j The field carded, for the Bey Memorial embraces some of trie best improving talent in the Dominion, and a first-class contest looks j assured; Loyal Rey is a very capable per- ! former, and recently won a two-mile race in 4min 31sec from a 5.3 mark, which was. no mean effort. Petite and "Lady; Nessa"-are proved pacers OTier the distance, while they will also have the advantage of- having raced and j won on the track. Accountant is looked upon as a promising young horse, and Pecunia has only once been out of a place in her seven starts this season. Royal Navy and Ocniltree appeal most of the others. The favourite division may be LOYAL REV, PETITE, and ACCOUNTANT.

221-Joan Grattan. Ran 3mih 17 4-ssec to win at last start, and now on a 3.32 mark. Will probably be the favourite ~ I scr 220-KUrea. A- slow beginner, but can finish brilliantly scr Oil-Major Guy. Not the best of stayers, but likely to be prominent much of the way • • scr 000-Otaua. Not too reliable at the barrier scr 000-Our Fay. Recent form has furnished no line • • • > scr 112-Popeye. A horse with a future, and .Improving all the time '. scr 000-Roadster. Does not appeal • scr 000-Sllk King. Useful pacer over any distance. Fourth at Awapuni scr OOO'-Stamboul. Class may be a shade above him scr 010-Stylish Boy. Plenty of early speed .scrj DIO-Tinker. Does nothing wrong in his , races. Now trained by M. Stewart .. scr. 000-Royal Grattan. Unplaced in his last iilne starts '-•. *2

Q4O—STEWARDS' HANDICAP, £200; for unhoppled trotters; - 4.59 class; 2 miles.

000-Sans Pareil. 'Possesses great speed, but apt to make a fault at start 12 000-Activity. Does not appeal ......... .24 021-Loyal Avis. A much-improved mare this season ...* - v ••• 24 300-Purina. Did not meet with the best of luck in her races at A.wapuni ... 24 000-Ropata. Raced well at Wanganui earlier on circuit 36 The previous convincing stibwings of Joan Grattan look like assuring her of favouritism in. the Carterton Handicap, and her supporters can rely upon an excellent run for their money. A winner at the Park last month, she has much the best of the handicap on a time basis, and her brilliant beginning ability should enable her to secure a forward position early. Kilrea has not been a lucky mare, but she is nicely placed here, and Popeye is another likely to play a prominent part.' The coupled Sans Pareil and Major Guy are capable pacers, while Tinker's manners are good. Silk King, Purina, and Loyal Avie should hold the remainder safe. In a* weU-dlstributed^pool most support may be accorded JOAN GRATTAN, KILREA, and the SANS PAREIL-MAJOR GUY bracket. .- . '

000-Black. Native. Does not appeal scr 021-Blomfleld. Will not be troubled by the ■ distance scr 030-Native Ruler. Would have to improve on' recent efforts i.' scr 013-Native Worry. The two miles may trouble him over; the last bit ...... scr 021-Rich Harvest. liarller running may prove a guide scr 000-Snowy Blngen. Would need to begin better than of late scr 012-Paddy's Harvest Has previously been seen to advantage.over two miles .... 12 220-Allworthy. No line furnished on recent form, which, has been at pacing gait,. 36

201-Big Kauri. Makings of a good trotter 72 031-Sphinx. Led all the way over, similar ,journey at Awapuni, but has harder task from back mark ......:. 108 It has proved an excellent practice in the past for backers to follow the form shown in the' earlier trotting event, and this should prove a reliable guide towards solving the Stewards' Handicap. From the limit Blomfleld, Rich Harvest,' and Native Worry should be In the firing line for the greater portion of the journey, and further back are capable trotters in Paddy's Harvest, Big Kauri, and Sphinx._ The best supported will probably include _^PADDY'S HARVEST, BLOM FIELD, and BIG KAURI.

3.50— McLEOD MEMORIAL, £150; 3.43 class; 1£ mites.

200-Axspear. Sure to Improve with racing ..>......;... : . ....•., scr 030-First Shake. Previously been placed ov.er the distance at Hutt Park ..... scr 000-Golden Axworthy. The mile' and a half may trouble her scr 03-Latnnir Day. Will be staying on ..... Bcr 000-Mackscot. Will disappoint if he fails against this class scr 0-Ordnance. No form scr 000-Rhythm. Does not appeal scr 900-Short Wave. Has plenty of early speed «.V.....^... scrj

003-Stepson. Sure to be prominent for a long way . ; •• ■ • scr (Nil)-Wexford. First start .... ■ • scr 000-Max Havoc. Will be handy for the greater part of the journey, i. 24 Maiden form has not been good on the circuit, and the class is again poor in the McLeod Memorial. It Is probable that the result of the Trial Handicap will furnish a line upon the respective chances, but some solid support should be forthcoming for MACKSCOT, LABOUR DAXrWEXFORD BRACKET, and, I FIRST SHAKE.

43Q_CLAREVILLE HANDICAP, £200; 3.1 class; 1-| miles.

010-Black Art. Has shown plenty of speed in the south- ..;. scr 100-Di!test. This class will' test her ... scr 000-Embassy. Giving away time to compete scr 000-ldlealong. No. form to commend him. scr O-Lord Brent. Still a maiden scr 001-Loyal Rey. A- very promising horse, likely to get solid support scr 03-Labour Day. Giving away time to start scr 030-OchHtree. A likely outside prospect scr 002-Petite. A mare with any amount of speed ..; scr 000-Ranger. Does not appeal .....scr 000-Repose. Not a good stayer scr 'W-Bfty** Navy. Can run a merry mile ana a quarter scr -Accountant. A likely proposition ... 12

. 122- Lady Nessa. Has raced consistently throughout the circuit .'... 12 002-Loch Lever). Ran an encouraging race at Awapuni 12 323-Pecunia. An honest mare who can be relied upon to pace a solid race 12 (Nil)-Rollalong. Does not appeal ..12 There are some particularly speedy intermediate pacers engaged in the Clareville Handicap, and the pace is likely to be on all the way. The event will probably bo reduced somewhat by withdrawals, for there are five maidens engaged ■ giving away time to compete. Loyal Rey, Petite, Royal Navy, Lady Nessa, and Pecunla are certain of solid backing, while the prospects of Ochiltree and Black Art cannot be Ignored. A preference may be: shown for PETITE, LADY NESSA, and PECUNIA.

sJo_j. F. THOMPSON HANDICAP, £225; 2.56 class; 1| miles.

000-Brigadier. Unplaced in seven starts this season ; scr 030-Envious. Has been placed on the circuit, but this class looks more difficult ecr 003-Fortex. Has failed on several occasions when expected to do better this season. scr 221-Joan Grattan. If unpenalised for earlier effort will have another opportunity here, and would still be a prospect with a rehandicap scr 220-Kllrea. Takes time to pick up speed . scr 00{-Lady Vasclyne. Won well at Awapuni and has good prospects scr 000-Our Fay. No form to commend her .. scr 112-Popeye. Should run a merry mile and a Quarter scr 000-Roadster. Does not appeal scr Of I-Major Guy. Appreciates the distance . scr 000-Stamboul. Would need to Improve on recent showings scr 010-Stylish Boy. Is a good beginner .... scr 010-Tinker. Has previously been seen to advantage over •journey scr 000-Royal Grattan. Does not appeal 12

(Nil)-Silver Black/ No racing this season 12 000-Sans Pareil. Will be coupled with Major Guy and should race prominently if he gets away on terms 12 000-Activlty. Does hot appeal 24 021-Loyal Avis. No easy task from this mark 24 300-Purina. A smart beginner who may provide an upset 24 000-Ropata. Task of conceding up to 36yds may prove beyond him 36 The last event of the day is popularly termed the "Recovery Stakes," and as such it naturally encourages spirited betting. The field engaged in the Thompson Memorial affords plenty of range, and it is possible the favourite selection will be at quite > a satisfactory return. Most of those carded will be receiving a second opportunity to pay exes, and in this lot are well-performed pacers in Joan Grattan, Kilrea, Popeye, Tinker, Sans Pareil, and Major Guy. The convincing manner in which Lady Vasclyne won at Awapuni will assure her of many friends: Some that will be in demand are JOAN GRATTAN, LADY VASCLYNE, and the MAJOR GUY-SANS J PAREIL bracket.
