LONDON, April 20.
The Hong Kong correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" says that the Chinese hopes of recapturing Canton are considered to be remote. Both sides are bringing up reinforcements, and bitter fighting is raging, particularly around Tsengshin.
The Chinese drive in Honan province apparently has come to a standstill with the Japanese recapture of Chungmu, south of Kaifeng, and the repulse of the Chinese attack on Siangyang, in Hupeh province. .
Tension has suddenly developed on the coast of Fukien, where the Chinese fear an invasion of Foochow in view of the massing of Japanese warships and transports at the mouth of th« Mm River.
