Double-feature Programme,
'•Mr. Chedworth Steps Out," which commences a return season tomorrow at the Paramount Theatre, is one of Australia's finest talking films In fact, it is probably the best the' coun try has so far produced, for its direction is well-knit, its dramatic value* are suitably emphasised, and it is a great deal more polished than many previous productions from Cinesound Studios. The story concerns the adventures of George Chedworth, a quiet hard-working city clerk, who wins £1000 in betting and who picked up a bag containing £15,000 in counterfeit | money about the time he is retrenched i from his firm. He is persuaded to purI chase apparently-worthless goldminin« shares and becomes wealthy with the discovery of a new reef on the company's property. With the prosperity, he is able to indulge long-fancied whims and to gratify the social-climb-ing ambitions of hs stridently-voiced wife. But there are complications because of the counterfeit money and in a tense climax the real swindlers are exposed and Mr. Chedworth again steps out of danger to become, at last, the master of his household. Cecil Kelloway, back from a Hollywood adventure, is much more assured than before in his acting and turns in a capital performance. The lesser parts are also well acted. Australia's Deanna Durbin has a part in the film and sings with a good deal of the freshness and charm of the real Deanna. The associate film will be "I Am a Criminal," with John Carroll heading a large cast,
