OFFICE POSITIONS
GIRLS LEAVING SCHOOL
VIEWS OF PRINCIPAL
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PAJLMERSTON N., This Day,
"The demand for girls in office positions has been keen and a number of1 girls have decided to take positions instead of completing a third year at school," stated the principal of the Palmerston North Girls' High School, Miss E. E. Stephens, in her report to the meeting of the board. "If circumstances make this necessary I do not try to dissuade them, provided they are willing to transfer at once to the Tech-' nical High School in order to continue*1 their commercial studies. But, in the interest of the community as well as the girls themselves, I feel that 'the school should impress on the parents the folly of taking away first- and second-year pupils to take positions that cannot lead to anything, for the sake of the few shillings they can I earn immediately. At least two full years are necessary berore a girl can! be considered ready for any position,! and even then the two-year course ought to be regarded only as a foundation for further study or specialised work in practical subjects."
