THORNDON CIRCUIT I
The quarterly meeting of the Thorndon Methodist circuit was held at the Karori Church on Tuesday night, the Rev. R. B. Gosnell, superintendent minister, presiding. There were also present the Rev. A. M. Costain, the circuit stewards (Messrs. C. H. Ham and C. R. Ridding), and a good attendance of office-bearers.
Deep sympathy was expressed with the Rev. and Mrs. C. Eaton, of Palmerston North, whose son, Dr. O. L. Eaton, was fatally shot while engaged ■in mission work in China. Those present stood in silence as a mark of respect. Sympathy was also expressed with Mr. W. Jenkin, of Karori, in his illness, and the hope expressed that he would speedily be restored to health. Very successful harvest festival services were reported to have been held at each of the four churches, the offerings at these services showing a marked increase on the previous year.
Mr. J. Cable presented a report of the youth work of the circuit. The year had commenced well, and good work was being maintained in the various Sunday schools and Bible classes.
The chairman reported on several items of interest arising out of the annual conference held recently in Christchurch, special mention being made of the proposal to raise £150,000 in 1940 as a Centenary Fund.
