DIFFICULT TO SECURE
SIR E. PAGE'S SUPPORT!
MR. MENZIES AS PREMIER
(Received April 19, 2.30 pan.)
LONDON, April 18,
"The Times," in a leader, points out that Mr. R. G. Menzies will not easily secure the support of Sir Earle Page, which will be necessary to avoid a General Election, the chief difficulty being the national insurance scheme.
Mr. Menzies, perhaps, says "The Times," lacks some of the qualities which made the late Mr. Lyons an ideal coalition leader, including Mr. Lyons's gift for compromise and his capacity to diviae the thoughts and feelings of his fel-low-countrymen, but Mr. Menzies's force of character, great intellectual powers, and wide knowledge of men and affairs both inside and outside the Commonwealth, justify the hope that he will prove an admirable Prime Minister in a difficult time.
Mr. Bruce was not nominated, which was just as well because it would be hard to find an equally satisfactory High Commissioner.
