RELIEF IN SPAIN
BRITISH ASSISTANCE
END OF NON-INTERVENTION
(Received April 19, 2 p.m.)
LONDON, April 18.
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Mr. R. A. Butler) said in the House of Commons that Britain was contributing a further sum of £40,000 to the International Commission for Child Refugees from Spain. The British Red Cross had effectively utilised £50,000 which it had received from the Government for relief work in internment camps in south-eastern France and Britain was giving 500 tons of food for poverty-stricken people in Madrid.
The Non-intervention Committee will cease to exist on April 20 when a winding up meeting will be held. It is expected that there will be a small surplus to distribute among the Governments which subscribed towards the expenses.
