SERIOUS INJURIES
CONTACT WITH POWER LINE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
HASTINGS, April 18,
Severe burns, shock, and head injuries were suffered by R. McCartney, a married man, of Taradale, when he came in contact with high-power electric lines while painting his house today. It is believed that the paint brush struck an electric line. Mrs. McCartney heard loud screams and rushed outside and found her husband hanging from the wires by his hands. He was unable to free himself. With great presence of mind she rushed into the house and turned off the electric supply at the meter. This enabled McCartney to release his grip, but he was so severely burned and shocked that he fell head downwards about twelve feet to the concrete paving below. He was taken to the Napier Hospital, where his condition is reported to be serious.
