REFUSED TO PAY TAXI FARE
Theodore Chalmers, . ged 70, appeared , before Messrs. A. Longmore and J. L. Arcus, J.P.s, in the Magistrate's Court today, and pleaded guilty. to a charge of obtaining credit by fraud in incurring a debt for a taxi-fare amounting to Bs. Sub-Inspector D. J. O'Neill described how Chalmers had engaged a taxi to take him out to the Salvation Army Home at Miramar. When he found there was no accommodation available he became most abusive and caused a scene. All this time the taxi-driver was waiting. A constable eventually arrived and advised the defendant to pay the fare, but he refused to do so.
Chalmers was convicted and fined £1, and ordered to pay the taxi-fare, Bs.
