REGIONAL TRIALS
AUCKLAND PROPOSAL
N.Z. TEAM SELECTION
The system of trials for the selection of the New Zealand Rugby team to visit South Africa next year ha? been considered by several unions, and it will be a subject of discussion at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union next month. Auckland's consideration has led to the following remit .being framed for submission to delegates at the N.Z.R.U. annual meeting:— "■ :'■ '.'■ .;. \-, .'.,
"That for the purposes of selection of the next All Blacks, district or regional trials be held—at least four in the North Island and three in the South Island, followed by a Possibles v. Probables match in each island, the final selection to be made after a New Zealand Possibles v. Probables match at the end of this season or the beginning of next."
The opinion was expressed by several members of the Auckland Rugby Union's management committee that the North v. South Island match should not be regarded as a trial match, as to do so might preclude certain players from having an opportunity of showing their ability.
