Survoy, who created a big surprise when winning the Southern Champion Hack Handicap at Riverton last Monday, was steeplechasing last winter, when he won the Otautau Steeples.
Gaylord, who has been brought back into work by E. Simpson at Trentham after a three months' spell, has grown a lot since he did his first racing at Tauherenikau at the New Year.
Mister Quex has been returned to his owner, Mr. D. Donald, of Masterton, who intends to use him as his personal hack. Mr. Donald thought of jumping him, but has now decided to retire him from racing.
• Several Trentham horses are waiting for rain. Among those who were not raced on the final day at Tauherenikau on this account were Lustral, Liane, and Southern Blood.
The name of Minority has been claimed for the two-year-old halfbrother of Foxbridge to Majority. Like his successful relative he is also a black, and his race debut will be awaited with interest.
The values of the Great Northern Hurdles and. Great Northern Steeplechase this year will be respectively £1500 and £1750, an increase in each case of £250 on last year's stakes. After racing unsuccessfully in Australia for the last three months, Stretto returned to Auckland on Tuesday. The Hunting Song mare developed respiratory trouble and she failed to show anything like her true form. She is to be retired to the stud, and her first mating will be with Bulandshar. In days gone by Mr. Troy was among the best of high jumpers, and well to the fore in running events.
