MAKE YOURSELF A MUFF
The old complaint that a muff is "only another thing to carry" does not hold good this winter, as all modern muffs are really handbags as well.
The other complaint—that you cannot afford to buy one; —is also quite unnecessary, for you can make one quite simply.
You can decide for yourself whether you buy yourself a piece of real fur, fur fabric, velvet, or whether you use
up that old stole you have had for ages!
First take a piece of cotton wool measuring ten inches by fourteen, and cover it with satin to match the fur you mean to use. Take the samesized length of fur and cover half of it with satin, sewing an eight-inch sliding fastener at the top ends of the fur, making a muff shape. This is the handbag pocket.
Sew in the inner, cottonwool-lined muff, being careful not to sew up the pocket which is going to serve you as handbag, and put a casing round the ends of. the muff, using a strip of satin.
Thread a narrow elastic through it and draw it up to a comfortable size to fit the wrist.
Before cutting the fur, see that the hairs go in the right direction—they should lie downwards when the muff ig worn.
