Parties for Mlsis AY Harcourt.

Miss Moya Hemptdri; iwho is to be a » bridesmaid at Miss Annette Harcourt's . wedding to Mr. T. Coleridge on Tues- . day, gave a tea and-sherry^party for ; Miss Harcourt yesterday afternoon at : [ her home, 25 Hobson Crescent. All . the guests brought recipes which;; they r copied into an attractive recipe book > given by Miss Hempton to her:guest ;of honour. The hostess wore a> navy r blue and white floral silk frock; and . Miss Harcourt was dressed in a clover wool crepe frock trimmed with a quilted design. Her hat was a petrel blue felt with a clover band. There were two oth^r parti er this week for the bride-elect, her aunt, Mrs. Gordon Harcourt, and Mrs.' Goring Johnston being the hostesses. Dickens Fellowship. The April meeting of the Dickens Fellowship was held in Druids' Chambers recently. A most enjoyable programme had been arranged, the guest speaker being the Rev. Father .Walsh, who gave a very interesting talk on 'The Social Significance of Dickens." A sketch, in costume, - from ''Out Mutual Friend" was excellently • "presented, the characters portrayed being Lizzie Hexham (Mrs. Shakes), Charlia Hexham (Miss Rosemary Page)-, ,and Gaffer Hexham (Mr. Shakes). ■ Mr. Shakes also gave a fine impersonartioa of Uriah Heep. Vocal numbers- by Miss Gwen Lewis and Mr. -Val. Jonee were heartily encored, as also wer« pianoforte solos by Mr. McMillan. Th« accompanists were Mrs. Wakelin.Mrtf. Price, and Mr. McMillanTwo Guests of Honour. Miss Black was hostess recently at a party which she gave in the National Club rooms for Miss May McCulloch, who is- leaving soon for England, v and for Miss Dell Ferguson, -whose marriage will take place shortly. Music, games, and competitions were enjoyed till supper, after which dancing took place. A competition for' the best floral arrangement, worn in ..the "hair was won by Miss Dorothy Collins, Miss Abbott being second. Mr. Ted Browell won a similar competition, in hats,_ Mr. Ken Dickie being second, and Mr. Jack Hadfield highly commended, Other competitors were won by. the. Misses Patricia Reid and Cora Duncan, and Messrs. Lan Bell and Peter Turner. Songs were sung by Miss' Chrissia Ormiston and Miss Evelyn Watson,, Miss G. Nannestad gave recitations, and Miss Cora Duncan and Miss Pat Reid danced a duo. The engagement of Miss Maureen Williams and Mr. Ted Browell was announced, Miss Williams ' being presented with a- basket of flowers by Miss Black." Opportunity was taken ta make a presentation to Miss Dorothy Collins, and Miss Ferguson and Miss McCulloch also received many useful gifts. > - Members Take the Platform. At the Radiant Health -and Psychology Club, a meeting was held last week, when Mrs. Ronald T. McLean, vice-president, was in the chair. The evening took the form of an open night, when any member was invited to take the platform for a short'time. In this way, many speakers have developed out of the club.' Those- who spoke' were Mrs. McLean. Mrs. Geary, Mrs. Pollard, and Mr. Cooper. At the previous meeting the platform was taken by Mr. S. F. .McLean, his?-sub-ject being '"Breathing for- Health.and Beauty." Many practical demonstrations in. exercises were given, Mrs. Steffens, vice-president, "wn's^m-the chair. _ ' * ■ One of the First Big Dances. One of the first, big'^dances.- of .;this season will be the -■' annual - cabaret party held in connection with .the Free Kindergarten Association. A pleasant afternoon? was spent* recently at the borne .of. the Misses Cameron, Kalwarra, when trie annual meet,ing of the Kaiwarra branch-'of. the . , British and Foreign Bible Society was held. The Bey. R. B. GosneH was in . the chair.'There'was a large"attendance of women, among whom was- Mrs. Wainwright, an old resident of the-dis-trict. The Wellington organising sec- * retary. Mrs. Violet Wakelin; gave an instructive talk on the- work of the society. The election of officers resulted as. follows:—President, the Rev. R. B. Gosnell; vice-presidents; -Miss J. Cameron, Mrs. R. B, Gosnell; hon. secretary. Mrs. A. A. "Price; collectors, Mesdames Houston, Price, Tyrer, -Woolcott, and Miss Sinclair. Afternoon tea was. serxed, and a special' vote of thanks was accorded to the' Misses ( Cameron for their hospitality, and to Miss Sinclair, who' had- organised the meeting; The usual annual collection of donations will commence shortly, and it was hoped that Kaiwarra residents would give with even more than 'than- usual generosity.
