YESTERDAY'S LOCAL SALE
Wellington brokers held the usual fortnightly sale of hides and sheepskins yesterday before the usual bench of buyers. Half-wools were in good demand and appreciated up to £d, but all other sorts eased a shade.
Cow hides in all weights dropped Jd, and light ox were also £d lower. Medium ox improved id, while a sharp rise was experienced in the heavy sorts, which advanced lid. Yearling and calf were firm, but kip eased &d. Range of prices:— Dry Sheepskins.—Halfbred, 6£d to 7£d a lb; fine crossbred, 6£d to 7fd; medium, 6-£ dto 7fd; coarse, 6Jd to 7Jd; half-wools, 5d to 7£d; quarter-wools, 3%d to 6|d; pelts, lfd to 3|d. Hides.—Ox ; 331b to 441b 4Ad to 5Jd, 451b to 521b 43d to s|d, 531b to 591b 5d to 6|d, 601b to 691b s|d to Bd, 701b and over 6d to 7 5-8 d; cow, 331b to 391b 3d to 5 3-Bd, 401b to 481b 4 5-8 dto 5 3-Bd, 491b and over 4-£ dto s£d; kip, 251b to 321b 4sd to sfd, 171b to 241b 4 5-8 d to 6 5-8 d; yearling, 111b to 161b, 4 5-8 d to 7 7-8 d; calf, 91b to 101b sfd to 7 7-Bd, 61b to B*lb 6 5-8 dto 10 3-Bd, lib to 51b 7d to IOJd.
