"NEW SPAIN"
SERVICE TO THE WORLD
AMBASSADOR WELCOMED
TIES OF FRIENDSHIP
\By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) j (Received April 12, 1.30 p.m.) I BURGOS, April Tl. The British Ambassador, Sir Maurice Peterson, in presenting his credentials to General Franco, said: "I come to the new Spain after years of suffering, through which Spain has merited world-wide sympathy."
General Franco replied: "The new Spain with which you are about to become acquainted rises strongly after rendering service to the world by defeating international Bolshevism and rescuing faith in civilisation.
"Spain is conscious of its historic responsibilities, and in renewing its relations with countries like Britain, to which it is bound by ties of friendship on a geographical basis, Spain is certain of recognition of her great sacrifices and loyal and sympathetic friendship in her plans for the future. With this spirit you will find on my part the most sincere collaboration."
