RUGBY FOOTBALL

ENTRIES FOR SEASON

FIXTURES AND TRANSFERS

A meeting -of the management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union was held last night, Mr. J. N. Millard presiding.

Two Rugby League players, seeking reinstatement to the Rugby code, presented their cases to the committee, and their applications will be forwarded to the New Zealand Rugby Union for decision. The transfer of G. Petley from the Kaiwarra Club to the Wellington Club was approved. Permission was granted for the following matches to be played:—Hutt v. Red Star (Masterton). Hutt Recreation Ground. Saturday; Petone v. Athletic (senior), Petone, Saturday; Athletic (fifth) v. Petone, Saturday; Hutt (junior) v. Petone, Saturday; Hutt (third) v. Petone, Saturday. A letter from the Wellington Primary Schools' Rugby Union stated that Saturday morning coaching had been! fully discussed at its recent annual, meeting. '•'The consensus of opinion, the letter stated, "was that the coach-1 ing should be spread out and not made ■ the duty of one particular club—in jfact, the names of clubs should not •be used at all in sponsoring the acj tivity. The activity should be conI trolled solely by the Wellington Rugby ' Union. The idea of coaching by acI tive players is an excellent one, but with the memory of the harm done to I Rugby by the inclusion of immature Iboys in club Rugby—the now depart-1 ed seventh grade—we consider the matter should be carefully handled. I On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to leave the matter.to the clubs in the meantime. A circular would be sent out in the near future. It was decided to allow the primary schools the use of Athletic Park on Friday afternoons. ENTRIES.
