CITY FINANCES

MAYOR GRATIFIED

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

PALMERSTON N., This Day.

"I am very well satisfied and the position disclosed shows that our finances are in a most healthy position," said the Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford) when reviewing ttie finances of the city of Palmerston North. He added that during the coming year the' council would be faced with fairly heavy capital expenditure to maintain the growth of the city, but it would be the council's continued policy to see that the finances were kept in a healthy condition notwithstanding the heavy programme ahead. The general account finished the year with a credit of £2294 17s sd, whereas it commenced the year with a debit of £2733 4s 7d. This was most satisfactory, particularly when one took into consideration that the general rate was reduced 7-20ths of one penny on account of the special rate struck for fire fighting. ■»
