SEA SCOUT REGATTA

WHALEBOAT RACING

Fifteen crews took part in the thirteenth annual Sea Scout whaleboat racing regatta, held on Wellington Harbour on Saturday. Representatives from Nelson and Wanganui competed, as well as crews from four local troops, Petone, Port Nicholson, Britannia, and Collingwood. The Washbourn Cup, for seniors over 17 years of age, was won by Iron Duke (Nelson), who exhibited superior oarsmanship to win. by a length and a half from Ist Castlecliff. The Aorangi Cup, for juniors under 17 years of age, was won by Ist Castlecliff, who defeated Port Nicholson. A race for Rover Scouts between Iron Duke and ■ Castlecliff c, rowed over a mile, resulted in a win. for Iron Duke by 12 lengths. Port Nicholson won the Cornwall Shield for the most points in the regatta, and the Leslie Shore Memorial Cup for the best rowing style was won by the Iron. Duke crew, which won the Washbourn Cup. The Iron Duke junior crew won a trophy, donated by Mr. F. C. Kolmes, for the best crew of junior oarsmen. The results of the races, which were conducted over a course of thrjeeqiiarters of a mile for juniors and a mile for seniors, are as follows:—

First Heat.—lrresistible beat Collingwood II by six lengths. Time, Smin :'osee. Second heat: Port Nicholson I beat 2nd Castlecliff by eight lengths in Bmin 43sec. Third heat: Collingwood I beat Britannia by five lengths in Bmin 41sec. Fourth heat: -Ist Castlecliff beat Iron Duke: by ten lengths in Tmin 44sec. Fifth heat: Port Nicholson II beat Collingwood 111 by nine lengths in 9min 4Ssec.

In the second round. Port Nicholson I beat 'irresistible by flve lengths in Smin SOsec, and Ist Castlecliff beat Collincwood I by seven lengths in Smin 20sec. Port Nicholson II had a bye.

The two Port Nicholson crews met in the semi-flrial, the No. 1 crew proving the winners. In the final, Ist Castlecliff—R. Green (str.), M. Springer (2), S. Robinson (3), E. Robinson (4) C. Brown (bow), and S. Edinger (coxswain).—beat Port Nicholson I by ten length! in Smin 9sec.
