BOXING BOUTS
SEAMEN'S EXHIBITION
Three hundred^- seamen and visitors attended at the Flying Angels Missions to Seamen rooms last night when exhibition wrestling and boxing bouts were held between members of the crews of the motor-ship Dominion Monarch and the Filipino crew of the. American steamer Susana. Money which was given by those present will form the nucleus of a fund for the promotion of further sporting contests between crews of visiting ships. Mr. Anton Koolman's gymnasium provided exhibitions of wrestling.
Mr. J. J. Galley was referee of the boxing, for which Mr. M. Andrews, of the Dominion Monarch, former amateur boxing association champion of England, sponsored the Dominion Monarch competitors. The Susana boxers were managed by Mr. A. Fernandez. Jack Sharpe, Wellington, and G. Tottem, Dominion Monarch gymnastic instructor, gave a professional boxing exhibition. The exhibition bouts were as follows (Susana boxers mentioned first):—
Flyweight: S. Lorenzo and J. Landalls. Bantamweight: P. Mondevar and M. Mackay. Featherweight: E. Rebelleza and P. Kylan. Lightweight: S. Yenko and J. Day; J. Grimes (Waimarama) and R. Thornton (Port Caroline).. Wrestling: H. Woods and R. Gifford: B. Shepherd and S. Neilson; J. Lakey and P. McCarthy; R. Newth and T. Wright.
