HUTT VALLEY NEWS

MRS. P. DOWSE HONOURED

(From "The Post's" Representative.)

A pleasant evening party took place yesterday, when Mrs. B. F. Logic and Mrs. T. Logic entertained members of the Hutt Valley Women's branch of the New Zealand Labour Party at a social evening which was held at the latter's home, 17 Hinau Street, Lower Hutt, in honour of Mrs. Percy Dowse, retiring president of the branch. Mrs. Dowse, who has held the office for the past four years, was presented with two bouquets, and another was given to the branch secretary, Mrs. G. Suters. The bouquets were designed by Mrs. Boyd and presented by Mrs. Land, a member of long standing in the branch. Mrs. Dowse was wearing a frock of violet matalasse with corsage and sleeves of lace, and Mrs. B. F. Logic, who succeeds her as president, was in a gown of black embossed cloque with a coatee of black panne velvet. Mrs. T. Logic's frock was of white floral patterned crepe. Mrs. Catherine Stewart, M.P., and Mrs. Walter Nash were among the guests, and an apology was received from Mrs. H. Combs, wife of the member for Wellington Suburbs.

( In presenting Mrs. Dowse with the committee's gift of a lounge chair, the new president paid tribute to her initiative and organising ability, which, she said, had been a large factor in the success of the branch. The members were also particularly grateful to Mrs. Dowse for the part she had taken in organising their annual concert. Mrs. Dowse was accorded a hearty ovation, and in her reply wished both her successor and the branch* the best of fortunes. Two contralto solos were given by Mrs. T. Logic, and supper followed.

The guests inqluded Mesdames Reed, Nicoll, Young, McGrath, Suters, J. Colman, Moyes, Land, Boyd, Spurr, Cocker, 'W. Jarvie, Baker, Dent, Hudson, Addis, Ord, Wynyard, Hart, and Macintosh.
