LONDON, March 29.

Two time bombs exploded oil Hammersmith Bridge early thi9 morning, blowing away part of the superstructure in the centre of the bridge.

The explosions were heard over a wide area and over 100 windows in buildings in the neighbourhood were broken. Nobody was injured. The bridge has been temporarily closed.

A man walking on the footpath oi the bridge picked up a box from which he heard crackles. He threw it into the river and the box exploded before touching the water. As the man left the bridge a second explosion occurred on the other footpath.

A car-hire firm reports that a chauffeur drove two men to the Thames and stopped near the , bridge. The chauffeur was held down, and when an explosion occurred the men disappeared.
