The weather will be fair to fine at first with rising temperatures, but scattered showers will develop in the extreme south-west of the country and will extend later to the western and far southern districts of the South Island. Moderate to strong south-westerly to southerlywinds were general yesterday, gale force being reached in a few exposed positions about Cook Strait. Some light showers fell in the area between East Cape and Banks Peninsula, 24 points of rain being recorded at East Cape and 27 points at Port Robinson, but in other places the rainfall did not total more than two or three points. Although cold, the weather was fine over the remainder of the country. Fairly sharp frosts occurred last night at Christchurch, Naseby, and Alexandra.
