NEW GIRLS' CLUB FORMED

A new club, which promises to have a most successful future, was opened last night at the Y.W.C.A. The group, which has been named the "Inter-House Sports Club," is for girls in industries and business firms and about 150 attended the opening, which took the form of a "Yankee" basketball tournament and was preceded by a period of physical culture with Miss Helen Mac Donald, physical director of the Y.W.C.A. The tournament was played in the Blue Triangle Hall, arid afterwards supper was served. A great many teams were entered, so that the games had to be short and fast, but this merely added to the keenness of the players. The Y.W.C.A. team won after, a closely-contested final match with Bramall and Co. The referees were Miss Mirabel Morton and Miss H, M. Saunders (Y.W.C.A. girls 'work secretary).

Plans for the year|s activities were made on Tuesday evening when, two representatives from each of the various firms were entertained at a buffet tea in the Y.W:C.A. lecture room. There were about 30 girls present, who later formed themselves into an executive committee. The name of the group was decided upon, and it was arranged to hold a six-a-side basketball tournament on Wednesday nights throughout the season,, together with a period of physical, culture and tap dancing with Miss Mac Donald.

Miss E. M. Bennell, Y.WvC-A. activities secretary, presided at the meeting and spoke of the value of such a group in promoting not only physical fitness, but also friendships among the girls in different firms, and widening their outlooks and interests. It was hoped, she said, :to have a period of leadership training for the captains of the teams, as the running of the club would be left as much as possible in the hands of the members.

Those present at the inaugural meeting were Misses M. Houghton, T. Leathwick (Leo Blake, Ltd.), J. Bell, M. Brown (Fashions, Ltd.), N. Taylor (Brunsdon and Co.), K. Addley,. E. Jensen (Bond's Hosiery Mills), J. Wilkinson, L... Diamond (Elbe Tailoring Co.), P. Hawke, S. Stewart (Whitcombe and Tombs, Ltd.), J. Carrell, Joan Forrester (G. Bramall and Co.), V.
