BUILDING TRADES PICNIC
Under the auspices of the Bui&ding Trades Union, a very enjoyable} picnic ' was held at Maidstone Parlfc last Saturday. The weather was excellent and a splendid programme of eivents for young -and old was enjoyed], and there were many keen contests. Numerous children participated in quite a number of events. Ire the afternoon the adults T events weiie run off. The officials deserve great; credit for the manner in which the j events were run off. The chairman of the committee was Mr. J. W. Kay, and the vice-chairman Mr. J. Teague. The honorary secretaries were Mes:srs. H. Thompson, E. Weavers, and P.. Ryan. The director of the sports was Mr. P J. O'Neill, to whom the corthmittee is indebted for the manner iix which the events were run off. The 'director of the children's sports was Mr. J. Teague The committee in charge ofithe picnic and of the catering coimprised Messrs. Jeffries, Spencer Persoitt, Brice, McDowell, McHardy, Hardy, .lElliston, Ballam, Ballard, Smith, Forbes, Clark, Mullins, O'Grady, Mellish, Laurence, Wright, Green, Wyse, Jones, Shannon, and Bowen. The children wetre plentifully provided with ice , creams, sweets, drinks, and fruit,
