"THE LONGEST WAY ROUND"
One instance of the difficulties experienced by traffic through the closing of commonly used streets was given "The Post" by a taxi driver. The fare was picked up in Willis Street, and the destination was the Awatea. The ordinary short route was quite impossible, and the ship was reached via Dixon Street, Macdonald Crescent* Salamanca Road, Bolton Street, . and Customhouse Quay.
