FAIR TO CLOUDY
LIGHT DRIZZLE POSSIBLE
Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to fresh northerly winds. Weather for the most part fair to cloudy, with occasional light drizzle possible. Temperatures mild. The forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued by the Meteorological Office at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for light to fresh north-east to north-west winds, with a change to southerlies advancing later over the South Island. The weather for the most part will be fair to cloudy, but scattered showers of ! drizzling rain are probable in the -western and southern districts of the South I Island. Temperatures are likely to be mild, but cooler later in the south. Apart from a considerable rise in barometric pressure over the Tasman, there has been little change in the meteorological situation, the intense anticyclone over New Zealand and the depression over the New South Wales coast both remaining almost stationary. Light to moderate winds, between south-east and north-east, have predominated, and, except for a little local rain this morning in Westland and in the vicinity of Auckland, the weather has been fair to mild generally. All four main centres had fine, sunny weather yesterday. In Auckland there was a light to moderate easterly breeze and temperatures were mild, the maximum being 71.5 and the minimum 59.0. This morning the weather was cloudy, while there has been a little misty rain in the neighbourhood, but none in the city. The morning in Wellington yesterday was cool and in the afternoon mild. The maximum temperature was 69.7 and the minimum 51.9, there being recorded 9.5 hours of sunshine. Light variable airs were the rule until shortly after midnight, when a gentle northerly set in. This morning the weather was heavily overcast and cool. Strong north-easterly winds in Christchurch yesterday kept temperatures on the cool side, the maximum being 63.2 and the minimum 52.9. This morning the weather was continuing fine, but at 9 o'clock the wind was freshening again after a calm night. Winds in Dunedin were light and variable yesterday, and temperatures were mild. This morning the weather was still sunny.
